My name is Lila McNeil and I am a third-year student at the University of Michigan! I am a double major studying Communication & Media and International Studies, with a focus in Global Environment and Health. I love to hike, read, draw, and sing, and I am passionate about sustainability, media and social issues.

Education is an extremely important tool not only in determining children's futures, but also in aiding the growth and development of their minds. Every young person should have access to teachers or tutors who prioritize encouragement and support in addition to a complete understanding of the material. MarinMatches as a program is a great way to begin to tackle education inequity and I would like to do everything I can to help. I am a patient, empathetic person who champions learning from mistakes, qualities which I believe make me a good tutor. I love finding new ways of explaining things and working toward solutions. My subject strengths are English/Language Arts, Social Studies, French (I have done advanced study at college), reading; really anything based in humanities or social science. I am also more than capable of tutoring in general sciences, and while I excelled in math in school, I can tutor that very comfortably up until a certain grade level (most likely around 7th grade). As a junior in high school, I tutored a second grade girl in reading for the school year and it was a great experience. While I have not tutored an overwhelming amount, I have always been good at helping peers, explaining concepts, and working toward solutions, and I believe I could be a wonderful tutor for MarinMatches.
